The Ships from "Flight Of The Navigator"
I'm sure you remember that awesome move "Flight Of the Navigator" from the 80's. I decided to make the ship. The overall plan for it is to have it morph into the other shape, and I'm thinking about doing the stairs too. This is a pretty fun and neat project. It includes Motion Tracking with real video footage, using shape keys, and possibly a fluid simulator. This page is showing my progress on the whole project.

This one has the Grand Canyon, I think. Its one of the backgrounds that comes with most WIndows 7 os's.

Shows the ship and the tracking markings for the camera. They sync up the camera movement with the film. Notice how the ship goes down the road? Without the tracking it would be impossible to do it so well.

These little boxes are tracking markers. They represent an area to search for a particular feature of the video. Which then gets translated to the camera giving us Motion Tracking.

Transformation

To animate the transformation I will need to do a series of steps. 1st is to get the topology right. Vertex order is very important when using shape keys.

This is showing how I am combining a lattice, shrinkwrap and then using the shape key modifiers. This should give me the control i need to iron out dem kinks. But it will need some manual persuasion to get that final look.
